A thinking robot: part 1

After working for a reasonably long time on game-based environments to develop posh-sharp, I wanted to see how well I could get the framework working in robotic applications. I am also working on a new social robotic approach, so this post starts to connect behaviour modelling, robotics and cognitive frameworks.

Sonic Dancer - Experimental Art/Movement Prototype

Early into 2020 I was invited to attend an event from SWCTN where I met movement artist Silvia Carderelli-Gronau. As a result and outcome of the event, Silvia and I found that we have a shared interest in using technology that does not inhibit but non-invasively supports humans to perform, connect and sense movement.

Sonic Dancer - Iteration 2

Short Description

Funded by The Arts Council England in 2021, the project covers the next iteration of the collaboration between me and Silvia. For this iteration the focus was on getting a standalone device which fully autonomously generates the sound of people moving around it and still allows participants to explore shared movement and interaction.

Dance Sonification

I started writing about a shared Art/Dance - Robotics/HCI project as a short exploratory activity, but the project has matured from a fun short project into a more serious project.

The idea for a non-tech-centric approach to connect people using sound was born at a SWCTN event where I met movement artist Silvia Carderelli-Gronau. After a two-day brainstorming session, we came up with the idea of using a sound-based approach and built two early devices through small funding from Kaleider.

Unconventional Social Robotics

A key project I am working on as part of borobo ltd. is the Konpanion brand. Alexandre and I formed borobo to work and develop novel concepts in a cross-domain approach linking interior design and robotics.

MetaMakers First 12 months ... A year gone by

It has been nearly a year since my PhD was submitted. Wait, no, it has been a year by now. Time rushes by and Dr. Gaudl is working on software, apps, research and somehow finding balance of life.

Finishing the PhD and picking up new Work

PhD Wrap-Up

  • Finished the PhD.
  • Picked up new work at the MetaMakers Institute in Falmouth.
  • Working on an iOS app and researching computational creativity while trying to work on side projects.

I finished my PhD on building robust game AI in May 2016 with minor typographical corrections. This post is seeded from the visible listing on the current site and should be completed from the original Grav content folder.

PhD Thesis: Building Robust Real-Time Game AI

Games are a part of our modern culture and Game AI is the mechanism giving them life. During my PhD I was interested in understanding and aiding the design process of behaviour-based AI systems, or more specifically character AI.

Cognitive Agents in Game Environment Demo

I call you squishy and you shall be mine.

The following game demo is largely based on Unity’s own Stealth demo.

I changed the robots by controlling them through my cognitive architecture POSH# and augmenting the selection mechanism with ERGo. The resulting behaviour is less deterministic than strict behaviour patterns.
