Researcher in AI, interaction design and games

Swen E. Gaudl

I am a researcher in Artificial Intelligence, Behaviour Modelling, Evolutionary Computation, Interaction Design and Digital Games as well as Social Robotics and Low-Cost Robotic Design. I am interested in understanding and modelling natural intelligence - things that live and act based on their senses.

Since 2023 I am Senior Lecturer for Interaction Design at the Department of Applied IT, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, where I joined the HCI division. As part of my role I am teaching on the Human-Centred AI MSc programme. From 2018 to 2023, I was a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Plymouth.

During my PhD, I worked on agents for games and building action selection mechanisms. As part of this I created poshSHARP, a lightweight planner for game agents usable in engines such as Unity.

Sonic Dancer - Iteration 2

Short Description

Funded by The Arts Council England in 2021, the project covers the next iteration of the collaboration between me and Silvia. For this iteration the focus was on getting a standalone device which fully autonomously generates the sound of people moving around it and still allows participants to explore shared movement and interaction.

Sonic Dancer - Experimental Art/Movement Prototype

Early into 2020 I was invited to attend an event from SWCTN where I met movement artist Silvia Carderelli-Gronau. As a result and outcome of the event, Silvia and I found that we have a shared interest in using technology that does not inhibit but non-invasively supports humans to perform, connect and sense movement.

A thinking robot: part 1

After working for a reasonably long time on game-based environments to develop posh-sharp, I wanted to see how well I could get the framework working in robotic applications. I am also working on a new social robotic approach, so this post starts to connect behaviour modelling, robotics and cognitive frameworks.

Purpose

This page is meant to be a collection of some aspects of myself, mostly from my research perspective. If you are looking for private information, you need to talk to me because that is not something I am sharing here.
